Can you help us warm up Christmas?

Tuesday, November 10th, 2015

We are looking for support from business partners, friends and colleagues in the run up to Christmas.

This year we are supporting Crisis at Christmas in Newcastle who will welcome over 300 guests who are homeless, lonely or otherwise isolated to our Christmas Day and Boxing Day event.

Please help us in your shopping today by purchasing an extra item in store from the list below.  Once we receive all the donations our guests make up their own gift box (of approximately 10 items) to ensure everybody can get food / gifts appropriate to their needs and tastes.
*Left over items will be donated to a local charitable organisation supporting people in food poverty.

Donations can be made in person to our office at Cool Designs Ltd, Unit 8 North Hylton Enterprise Park, Hepworth Road, Sunderland SR5 3JT by the 15th December.  Or alternatively if you contact us on 0191 5496964 or we may be able to arrange a local collection.

Being on the ball with Cahonas

Thursday, April 16th, 2015

Cahonas Scotland is Scotland’s Male Cancer Awareness Charity committed to raising awareness of Male Cancers (Testicular Cancer, Prostate Cancer & Male Breast Cancer).  They exist to educate Scotland in matters relating to male cancers, reducing discrimination and stigma from the cancer experience & the aim to bring real positive change in Male Cancer Awareness

Cahonas Scotland

Cool Designs Ltd have supported Cahonas Scotland since its inception and the relevance of it in what is the largely male dominated industry we are in.  It was therefore extremely pleasing to receive this message from them:

“I just wanted to send you this message that has been sent to the Cahonas Scotland Facebook page from someone recently diagnosed with Testicular Cancer (attached).

Thank you for your support and everything you have done to help  – you and all our other supporters help has made this early diagnosis happen.  The awareness raised with the help from your sponsorship and donations has enabled us continue to do the work we can to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of Testicular Cancer, the importance of Self Checks and ultimately the early detection for this young man.

Early detection is key in the battle against this horrible disease and with your support you have helped this young man.

From all at Cahonas Scotland.  Thank you so, so much.”

The message from the person read as follows :

“I’m 30 years old and was diagnosed with testicular cancer in February this year.  I just want to say thanks to Cahonas and the message they shout about self checks.

I, thanks to the information given, from Cahonas Scotland had the knowledge and technique to check my balls properly and detected my cancer early.

If you have just happened upon this page or you have came because you are scared there might be something wrong, then use the power of knowledge that Cahonas Scotland can give and get yourself to the doctors as soon as possible.

I had my orchindectomy and now only need two cycles of chemo because early detection is crucial.

Thank you Cahonas Scotland for spreading this word as loud as you can.

From me and my family”

Fabulous stuff and you can imagine how pleasing it is to reach such a message and know that the support everyone gives goes a very long way indeed.

CDL Donate Signed Shirt

Monday, November 18th, 2013

Following from the success of the Steve Harper Charity game in which we sponsored the trophy on the day, we were presented with a signed Newcastle United shirt from the NUFC Foundation.  After some thought we felt this shirt could go to further use continuing the work done by those benefiting from the charity game as we have decided to donate the shirt.

Karate Club, Shikkari Karate Kai (see ) are raising funds for the Fraja Ellie appeal (see ).  We presented the club with the shirt who in turn are auctioning the shirt to raise funds for the appeal.

Fraja is 5 years old, an amazingly happy, funny and very loving little girl. She has been diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare cancer called Neuroblastoma with MYCN amplification which places her in the very high risk category. Fraja’s Neuroblastoma is even rarer than the usual form as there are only 3% of children with her type. Even with the multi-modality therapy that she is currently receiving, there is a relatively high chance that her cancer could relapse, should this happen there is generally a very poor long-term prognosis.
Sadly, around 80% of children with Neuroblastoma will relapse, and there is currently no UK relapse protocol. However, there are options available abroad; these treatments could cost in excess of £500,000.  They need to be able to send Fraja at a moment’s notice should this happen.

Currently in the UK all children are on a blind trial to whether they receive immunotherapy with an antibody on its own or with an extra drug to increase chances. If Fraja is not picked by the random computer she does not get this extra chance. So we will need to go abroad for it as it has been proven it could raise her chances by 20%. Everyone is working to raise funds to give her this treatment.

Cool Designs Supporting Local Charities

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Over the past two years we have began to work closely with two fantastic local charities. The work these two organisations do is second to none and we are very proud to be associated with them. Throughout 2010 Cool Designs will once again be supporting events organised by the two charities.

North East – The Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund

The Evening Chronicle Sunshine Fund endeavours to enhance the lives of disabled children in the north east, and help everyone associated with the child. There are hundreds of parents with disabled children in the North East.

They understand that it can cost thousands of pounds to adapt a home and purchase adequate transport and equipment for a disabled child, and that the local authority has very limited funding. The Sunshine Fund is there to provide that much needed equipment

North West – All Stars / Wingate Centre

The Wingate Centre is a registered charity whose prime objective is to work with people of all ages with disabilities. It is also the policy of the Centre to promote integration in all of its work.

The work of the Centre is two – fold :

Firstly, the Wingate Centre offers

Educational Residential and Holiday facilities.

In 2010 they have completed the redecoration and refurbishment  of the ground floor of the centre to follow on from the 2008 refurbishment of the first floor. – this completes their programme of renewal to bring them up to the high standard they know people expect.

Being based in a rural part of South Cheshire makes us an ideal holiday location with many interesting places to visit in the area. The excellent accommodation is specifically designed and equipped for disabled and special needs groups. Mainstream groups are also most welcome.
Accommodation comprises nine wheelchair accessible ground floor twin bedrooms with hand basins, with a full range of disabled bathrooms, shower rooms, toilets and sluice room. There is also a lounge/ TV room and games room. Further accommodation and facilities including two further lounges are available on the first floor which  has 2 lifts for access, and can cater for up to thirty guests.

Secondly, the Wingate Centre

has a ‘GymMark’ accredited gymnasium one of the first 100 in the UK to reach this level of professionalism.

It provides gymnastic and trampoline training for recreation and competition to all ages and levels of disability and ability. Their superb 7,000 square foot gymnasium offers classes for both mainstream and disabled people with a policy of integration whenever possible.
They can cater for all from the severely disabled who use gymnastics as therapy to those competing at National level.

Cool Designs support this charity alongside the All Stars Charity team who work tirelessly to organise various events throughout the year. Typically these are football matches against ex-football stars from the likes of Liverpool.

Please do contact us to find out more information about the charities or to find out when the next event is being held.
