Support Crisis this Christmas

Monday, November 13th, 2017

It’s quickly came upon us and as we sat shivering in our cars this morning it was a stark reminder of those that don’t have such luxuries.  Over recent years Cool Designs have supported the homeless charity, Crisis by acting as a drop off point for donations as well as arranging our own donations and collections for them.

Again this year we are offering the same and you can drop any donations in to a Cool Designs branch or give to any member of staff.  Our final day for collection is Monday 18th December and after that we will transport all items across to Crisis in Newcastle.

January Price Adjustment

Monday, December 12th, 2016

Toshiba announce price increase from 3rd January 2017.

We’re aware that the cost base for importing goods into the UK has significantly increased due to the weakening of sterling against other currencies such as the US Dollar and the Euro.

This has given many manufacturers no other option than to increase their retail prices.  Toshiba have announced a 5% increase across all products as of January 3rd.

The implementation of the increase is as follows:

  • All new orders received from January 3rd will be at the new prices
  • All orders placed before January 3rd and shipped before 31st March 2017 will be at the current prices
  • All orders placed before January 3rd and shipped after 31st March 2017 will be at the new 2017 prices

Any customers working on projects that may span these dates are encouraged to discuss with Cool Designs so that we can plan for them and put arrangements in place.

These price changes along with the changes from other manufacturers still position Toshiba very favourably and more so when quality, enhanced warranty, efficiencies and the rewards program are taken in to account.

We will soon be issuing a temporary price guide while our price list is updated to reflect these changes and new products coming in.

Toshiba 7 Year Warranty & updated Rewards scheme

Monday, February 15th, 2016

Toshiba Air Conditioning have reworked their warranty scheme so once again set new standards in the industry.

Traditionally, manufacturers award warranty term based on the annual spend of the contractor or end user.  Rather than take this commercial view, Toshiba has now linked their warranty term not to turnover, but to workmanship.

Toshiba T7 Enhanced Warranty

The standard off the shelf warranty for Toshiba Air Conditioning is now the T5, 5 years parts & labour allowance (no minimum spend).  Then by completing a set 3 training courses at any of our hands on training locations Glasgow, Sunderland or Warrington plus Toshiba’s own Leatherhead facility, this warranty is lifted up to T7 – 7 years, again with no minimum spend.

This means now that all contractors, no matter the business size, can benefit from a 7 year warranty.

The top tier in the scheme is the T7e, 7 Year Enhanced Warranty.  By completing the training & submitting commissioning and maintenance data, the warranty is 7 years but with an enhanced labour allowance.  Contact Cool Designs for further detail or see our library documents section (general info drop down) for more information.

Following on from this, Toshiba have updated their rewards scheme.  The additions scheme has now ended and is replaced with the updated Toshiba Rewards Scheme.

Register for the new scheme and accrue points on all Toshiba Purchases from Cool Designs (conditions apply).  These points can then be redeemed for Toshiba products, on site tools, Love2shop cards and travel vouchers or marketing activity.  See our website library for more information.

Toshiba win ACR Product of the Year

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

Toshiba has been awarded the National ACR Product of the Year for the new SMMS-e VRF System.

Toshiba SMMSe

Toshiba SMMSe

Developments in three core technologies – the compressor, heat exchanger and advanced intelligent control – combine to ensure all outdoor units in the new SMMS-E VRF range have an ESEER (European Seasonally Adjusted Energy Efficiency Rating} higher than 7, an industry first.

Wear surfaces on compression vanes are treated with a high-tech Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, giving outstanding hardness, wear resistance and reliability. This enables significant increase in compressor rotation speed, resulting in a higher displacement volume. Up to 50 per cent great than previous generations.

The heat exchanger has been completely redesigned, which results in a 13 percent increase in surface area available for heat transfer. It provides continuous heating with no requirement to stop during defrost. This is made possible by the use of a new hot-gas bypass control.

A new approach to intelligent operation gives occupants improved comfort, energy efficiency an reliability by using the independent Pulse Motor Valves (PMV’s) to control the flow of refrigerant to each indoor unit.

Wireless commissioning allows performance data and status reports to be automatically emailed to end users or engineers.  Pipe work and connectivity has been increased,  giving double the previous allowable length.

Finally,as a result of the new compressors design and improved system controls, the operating temperature range has been significantly extended, and is now -5 to 46°C for cooling operation and -25 °C in heating mode.

The new Toshiba SMMS-e VRF is now available from Cool Designs Ltd

Crisis Christmas Event

Tuesday, December 15th, 2015

Crisis is the national charity for single homeless people. They are dedicated to ending homelessness by delivering life-changing services and campaigning for change.

Crisis Skylight, the award winning and accredited education, training and employment centres, offer practical and creative workshops in a supportive and inspiring environment together with formal learning opportunities that lead to qualifications and finding work.

This year, at Cool Designs Ltd we have again acted as a drop of point for people wanting to donate clothing and/or non-perishable goods.  We’ve had a fantastic response and would like to thank everyone for their contributions of all shapes and sizes.  We dropped the items in to Crisis Newcastle today.

Crisis NewcastleAlong with their other donations, they will be sorted and railed by staff and volunteers and then during the Crisis Christmas event they will be on display in a “shop” where members will be able to choose items of clothing.  Non perishable goods are then sorted in to small gift boxes and treated in the same manner and food stuffs are cooked and served during the event.

Focus on: Fujitsu J-IIS Mini VRF (2-Pipe)

Thursday, July 16th, 2015

It’s easy for this little diamond to go under the radar,  given it has a height of less than 1M.  The Fujitsu Air Conditioning J-IIS Mini VRF is becoming a very popular option for applications where space is restricted or the height of the condensing unit it paramount.

Fujitsu Air Conditioning J-IIS Outdoor

The single fan VRF can connect up to 8 fan coil units with up to 130% connected capacity and has a quiet operation of as low as 51dB(A) (4HP model).  Despite it’s small size, it certainly isn’t small in operation.  Comprising of full DC inverter control, a DC twin rotary compressor, a three row large heat exchanger and DC fan motor.

Not forgetting the engineer either, the outdoor has been designed for easy maintenance.  It has a 7 segment LED showing operation status, addressing & pressures hosted with a removable PCB panel for ease of access.

There is a full range of easy-to-use controllers available, from wireless remote controls to a PC-based control software. The installation can also be linked to a building management system. The touch panel LCD wired controller has a large clear screen for ease of use and allows service engineers to interrogate indoor and outdoor units to diagnose the system.

The Fujitsu Air Conditioning J-IIS Mini VRF is available from Cool Designs Ltd.

Toshiba Touch Screen Controller

Thursday, July 16th, 2015

Toshiba Air Conditioning have launched a new flagship touch screen controller.   We have had a touch screen in the family of control for many years, but the latest model brings us right up to date using the latest technology.  It connects to the TCC network making is available for Toshiba Digital Inverter split systems and the SHRMi Heat Recovery VRF and SMMSi Heat Pump VRF.

Toshiba Touch Screen

The new 7in colour touchscreen offers unprecedented power and ease of use, enabling engineers and end users to control systems and optimise performance and indoor comfort.

With the ability to control up to 64 indoor units via a unique capacitive touchscreen, the new Toshiba controller marks a departure from conventional air conditioning controls.

It has a brilliantly clear colour display with pin-sharp graphical interface, providing lightning response to the operator’s touch commands.  Toshiba’s new controller is based on an intuitive touchscreen with icons, similar to a large smart phone.  The system offers a host of powerful functions that extend it’s use, with future developments.

The central controller is available this summer from Cool Designs Ltd.

Being on the ball with Cahonas

Thursday, April 16th, 2015

Cahonas Scotland is Scotland’s Male Cancer Awareness Charity committed to raising awareness of Male Cancers (Testicular Cancer, Prostate Cancer & Male Breast Cancer).  They exist to educate Scotland in matters relating to male cancers, reducing discrimination and stigma from the cancer experience & the aim to bring real positive change in Male Cancer Awareness

Cahonas Scotland

Cool Designs Ltd have supported Cahonas Scotland since its inception and the relevance of it in what is the largely male dominated industry we are in.  It was therefore extremely pleasing to receive this message from them:

“I just wanted to send you this message that has been sent to the Cahonas Scotland Facebook page from someone recently diagnosed with Testicular Cancer (attached).

Thank you for your support and everything you have done to help  – you and all our other supporters help has made this early diagnosis happen.  The awareness raised with the help from your sponsorship and donations has enabled us continue to do the work we can to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of Testicular Cancer, the importance of Self Checks and ultimately the early detection for this young man.

Early detection is key in the battle against this horrible disease and with your support you have helped this young man.

From all at Cahonas Scotland.  Thank you so, so much.”

The message from the person read as follows :

“I’m 30 years old and was diagnosed with testicular cancer in February this year.  I just want to say thanks to Cahonas and the message they shout about self checks.

I, thanks to the information given, from Cahonas Scotland had the knowledge and technique to check my balls properly and detected my cancer early.

If you have just happened upon this page or you have came because you are scared there might be something wrong, then use the power of knowledge that Cahonas Scotland can give and get yourself to the doctors as soon as possible.

I had my orchindectomy and now only need two cycles of chemo because early detection is crucial.

Thank you Cahonas Scotland for spreading this word as loud as you can.

From me and my family”

Fabulous stuff and you can imagine how pleasing it is to reach such a message and know that the support everyone gives goes a very long way indeed.
