January Price Adjustment

Monday, December 12th, 2016

Toshiba announce price increase from 3rd January 2017.

We’re aware that the cost base for importing goods into the UK has significantly increased due to the weakening of sterling against other currencies such as the US Dollar and the Euro.

This has given many manufacturers no other option than to increase their retail prices.  Toshiba have announced a 5% increase across all products as of January 3rd.

The implementation of the increase is as follows:

  • All new orders received from January 3rd will be at the new prices
  • All orders placed before January 3rd and shipped before 31st March 2017 will be at the current prices
  • All orders placed before January 3rd and shipped after 31st March 2017 will be at the new 2017 prices

Any customers working on projects that may span these dates are encouraged to discuss with Cool Designs so that we can plan for them and put arrangements in place.

These price changes along with the changes from other manufacturers still position Toshiba very favourably and more so when quality, enhanced warranty, efficiencies and the rewards program are taken in to account.

We will soon be issuing a temporary price guide while our price list is updated to reflect these changes and new products coming in.

As a reminder, training with Cool Designs is free of charge with refreshments provided on the day.  They are held at our hands on Glasgow, Sunderland and Warrington offices and can also be held at the Toshiba offices in Leatherhead (for Toshiba training) and Fujitsu offices (for Fujitsu training).

Toshiba win ACR Product of the Year

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

Toshiba has been awarded the National ACR Product of the Year for the new SMMS-e VRF System.

Toshiba SMMSe

Toshiba SMMSe

Developments in three core technologies – the compressor, heat exchanger and advanced intelligent control – combine to ensure all outdoor units in the new SMMS-E VRF range have an ESEER (European Seasonally Adjusted Energy Efficiency Rating} higher than 7, an industry first.

Wear surfaces on compression vanes are treated with a high-tech Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, giving outstanding hardness, wear resistance and reliability. This enables significant increase in compressor rotation speed, resulting in a higher displacement volume. Up to 50 per cent great than previous generations.

The heat exchanger has been completely redesigned, which results in a 13 percent increase in surface area available for heat transfer. It provides continuous heating with no requirement to stop during defrost. This is made possible by the use of a new hot-gas bypass control.

A new approach to intelligent operation gives occupants improved comfort, energy efficiency an reliability by using the independent Pulse Motor Valves (PMV’s) to control the flow of refrigerant to each indoor unit.

Wireless commissioning allows performance data and status reports to be automatically emailed to end users or engineers.  Pipe work and connectivity has been increased,  giving double the previous allowable length.

Finally,as a result of the new compressors design and improved system controls, the operating temperature range has been significantly extended, and is now -5 to 46°C for cooling operation and -25 °C in heating mode.

The new Toshiba SMMS-e VRF is now available from Cool Designs Ltd

Time to think about Air Conditioning Training

Monday, September 22nd, 2014

CDL launches air conditioning training blitz to get installers and end users up-to-speed

 Air Conditioning Training

Following the success of our online video-based training, we’re launching a comprehensive programme of classroom-based courses for air conditioning engineers, consultants and end users.

We believe a combination of practical, hands-on courses supported by a library of professional online videos is the most powerful way of training the next generation and ensuring existing installers are up-to-speed with the latest technology.

We are rolling-out a full programme of training at three locations across the UK – Glasgow, Sunderland and Warrington. We will also run courses at Toshiba’s air conditioning training centre in Leatherhead, Surrey.

Practical and theoretical courses will cover everything from designing and commissioning advanced heat recovery VRF systems, to fault diagnosis, F-Gas compliance and system optimisation.

It will also include training in the installation and use of Toshiba’s total refrigerant management and protection system, designed to provide complete reassurance for end users. The system has recently been adopted by a global hotel chain, and is being being rolled out across its estate.

Darrel Birkett, managing director of CDL, says: “Rapid developments in air conditioning technology, particularly in the area of control and monitoring, require constant refreshers to ensure installers and designers remain up-to-speed.

“It is not enough to go on an ‘air conditioning course’ once and expect to be equipped for life, as may have happened in the past. We believe training needs to be life-long, so that people understand how to apply the advanced features of today’s systems as they are introduced, in order to operate them safely and efficiently.”

He added: “The combination of hands-on classroom training using working equipment, backed by permanently accessible online instructional videos, provides a compelling package. Videos can be accessed by engineers at any time, at the point of need via a smart-phone; we know from feedback that installers use them as a real-time reference for problem solving, rather than wading through conventional manuals.”

We offer all training courses without charge to installers signing up for Toshiba’s Additions scheme or Fujitsu’s Comfort Club.

For more details, or to request a full list of courses, please contact CDL on Tel 0191 549 6964, or email sales@cooldesignsltd.co.uk

Toshiba Airconditioning - Lenny Henry Awards

Cool Designs Ltd, the specialist air conditioning supplier, has won the top accolade in the ACR News Awards 2014, being crowned Distributor of the Year.

The coveted trophy was presented to Darrel Birkett, CDL’s founder and managing director, by celebrity Lenny Henry at the gala awards finals, held at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

The judges praised CDL’s vision and commitment in becoming the first carbon neutral air conditioning supplier in the UK. They also commended the

company for combining outstanding charity and community work with commercial success.

CDL has been the recipient of the top distributor award now on a number of occasions. Darrel Birkett said: “It is obviously very pleasing to once again receive recognition by one’s peers in the industry. I am also delighted that our success is not just a flash in the pan, but reflects a winning formula that we have evolved and built into the company’s approach over a number of years.

“It is based on a lot of passion, creativity and hard work on the part of the CDL team. It also reflects the fantastic support we receive from our key manufacturers such as Toshiba.”

The distributor was also singled out for its dedication to the cause of training, in which it has invested significantly in recent years. The company, which recently celebrated 10 years as a Toshiba distributor, has capacity to train up to 400 engineers each year.

The company operates a highly successful and growing video tutorial library via You Tube, available with open-access for engineers.

Darrel added: “We believe commercial success can go hand-in-hand with environmental concern and community involvement. Indeed, I believe it is not only desirable but essential to act responsibly and do the right thing. The growth of CDL in recent years proves that this approach can create a virtuous circle.

“However, we will not be resting on our laurels. We have plans in hand to further grow the company in the future, and build on the strong foundation we have established.”
